Champions Hockey League Begins Its 10th Season in September

The 10th season of the Champions Hockey League kicks off at the beginning of September. The first game will take place in the Czech Republic, where Dynamo Pardubice will host Hungarian side Fehérvár AV19. Six matches are scheduled for the opening evening on September 5, with six more matches concluding the first matchday on September 6.

A total of 72 matches will be played during the regular season between September 5 and October 16, as teams compete for a spot in the playoffs. From the Czech Republic, champions HC Oceláři Třinec, Dynamo Pardubice, and Sparta Prague are all vying for the coveted European ice hockey trophy this year.

In the group stage, Sparta Prague will face Red Bull Salzburg (A), Eisbären Berlin (A), and Pinguins Bremerhaven (H), among others. Pardubice will play against Eisbären Berlin (A) and Straubing Tigers (A), while Třinec will go up against Swiss side Lausanne HC (A).

The 2024/25 Champions Hockey League regular season starts on September 5. Each of the 24 teams will face six different opponents. The teams will be ranked from 1 to 24 in an overall standing, with every point counting until the final matchday—whether it’s for securing a playoff spot or improving their starting position in the knockout rounds. The top 16 teams will qualify for the playoffs, with matchups determined by the regular season rankings (1st vs. 16th, 2nd vs. 15th, etc.).

With 16 teams advancing to the playoffs, four rounds will be required to crown the new European club champion. In the first three rounds, teams will play two-legged ties, with an aggregate score determining who advances. The playoffs begin on November 12 and culminate in the CHL final on February 18, 2025, which will be decided in a single game.
