On August 23 and 24, 2024, the Merkado Festival invites you to a weekend full of Latin American diversity and joie de vivre. After ten years at Jiřího z Poděbrad Square, the 11th edition of this popular festival is moving to the picturesque Vltava River, where visitors can expect a comprehensive program.
The festival offers a colorful mix of South American delicacies, music, and entertainment for the whole family on both days from 11:00 to 22:00. Fifty stands featuring a variety of typical products, including chili, mate, exotic fruits, and handmade textiles and jewelry from artisans from South and Central America, will be presented on the festival grounds.
A wide range of culinary delights will be on offer: visitors can look forward to traditional dishes from Colombia, Peru, Chile, Argentina, and Mexico. From juicy steaks from the Argentinian parrilla grill to Colombian empanadas and Venezuelan arepas, there will be something to suit every taste. For lovers of regional spirits, selected bars will offer Mexican mezcal, Brazilian cachaça, Cuban rum, and a large selection of South American wines.
The musical and cultural program is just as varied as the culinary offerings. Highlights of the festival include the spectacular Brazilian drum show by Tam Tam Batucado, lively performances by the Mexican mariachi Azteca de Praga, the Cuban quartet Cuarteto Tropical, and the band Pragasón. In the evening, visitors can dance to Salsateca and be enchanted by the carnival samba show.
For younger festival-goers, there will be Mexican piñatas filled with sweets, children’s workshops, face painting, and a bead-threading workshop every day, providing fun and entertainment.
Admission to the Merkado Festival is free. Come and experience a piece of South America right by the Vltava – a festival full of Latin American culture for all ages!
