After a summer break, the RunCzech race series returns with the Birell Grand Prix, bringing a thrilling combination of competition and celebration to Prague. On 7th September, the city’s streets along the Vltava River will come alive with runners and spectators, marking the perfect farewell to summer.
The event features two races. The evening kicks off at 6 PM with the adidas Women’s Run 5K, the largest women’s run in the country. Starting from the historic Municipal House, participants will enjoy a scenic route along the river, with a generous time limit of 50 minutes, allowing for an easy pace of 10 minutes per kilometre. This race is accessible to all, encouraging women of all fitness levels to join in and savour the experience.
At 7:30 PM, the spotlight shifts to the Birell 10K Race, where elite athletes from around the world, along with local Czech talent, will compete. Now in its 27th edition, the 10K race is aiming for a symbolic achievement this year: breaking the 27-minute mark. The course offers breathtaking views of Prague, taking runners through the charming Karlín district and alongside the Vltava River, passing beneath the scenic Letenské sady.
The Grand Prix is more than just an event; it’s a complete experience. Thousands of spectators will line the course, cheering on the runners, while the Marathon Music Festival provides a lively soundtrack to keep the energy high. The evening promises to be a memorable celebration of sport and community.
In keeping with tradition, the races are tied to charitable causes. This year, the adidas Women’s Run 5K is partnered with the Krása Pomoc Foundation, founded by Taťána Kuchařová, while the Birell 10K Race supports Cesta za snem. Participants can even choose to register through these organisations, directly contributing to their causes.
The 2024 edition of the Birell Grand Prix is set to be a spectacular event, with surprises in store for both runners and spectators. As the first race in the second half of the season, it sets the stage for what’s to come, including the Mattoni Running Festival in Ústí nad Labem, featuring a half marathon and a new 10K race, and the season-closing Liberec Nature Run, offering 12K and 22K routes through the beautiful countryside.
With many changes to come, runners can expect registrations for the 2025 season to open in the second half of September.
