Come and experience Americká Street in Prague’s Vinohrady district in a different light—Zažít Americkou jinak style! On Saturday, 14th September, from 10:30 AM to 9:30 PM, Americká and Záhřebská streets will be transformed into a vibrant promenade filled with music, dance, theatre, workshops, children’s activities, and delicious food. Enjoy another year of this street festival with your friends, family, and neighbours, and see the city from a different perspective. As always, entry to the event is free.
The musical and artistic programme will take place across four stages. The heart of the festival will be the La Calle Mexicana stage, featuring performances by Prague’s first original Mexican mariachi band, Mariachi Azteca De Praga, as well as groups like Grupo Latinsky and Cumbia Cooperativa, alongside several DJs. The programme will also include a dance workshop, an antigravity yoga demonstration, and a drummer parade.
As tradition dictates, there will be an official celebration of Mexico’s Independence Day, El Grito, in collaboration with the Mexican and Latin American community, complete with a Piñata made especially for the occasion.
At the fountain on the corner of Americká and Záhřebská, the Burza #4 stage will be set up near the establishment of the same name, which has supported the event for several years. Various DJs will be performing there throughout the day. On the Apelace 21 stage at Záhřebská 21, jazz will blend with house sets, while visitors can unwind at the Soundset stage on the corner of Americká and Uruguayská.
Local businesses and organisations will also have a presence at the festival. The social and cultural centre Letohradská 10, run by Latin American and Czech artists under the name Kolektivole z.s., will be showcasing their work. As in previous years, the library on Záhřebská Street will engage children with plenty of competitions and fun games. Just a few steps from its stage, the independent theatre Divadlo D21, which recently celebrated its 21st birthday, will have its booth set up, returning to Americká once again. You’ll also be able to view a sculpture by Mexican artists created to mark Mexico’s Independence Day, along with other art installations.
The festival’s main organiser, Omri Goz, says: “In over 10 years of organising Zažít Americkou jinak, it has become an event that attracts a large number of visitors annually. We’re pleased that we still manage to fulfil the original idea of connecting neighbourhood communities. Every year, we involve local businesses, bars, restaurants, associations, and individuals. On this day, people from different cultures come together to enjoy the place where they live and work. This is what gives Zažít Americkou jinak its unique atmosphere.”
Throughout the day, you can savour delicacies from Mexican, Latin, and global cuisine. Enjoy trendy street food or visit the local establishments. There will also be a MINT Market where you can purchase design pieces from local designers and original products from Latin America. At the Art&Deco by TSD booth, you can also participate in a workshop on painting glass with acrylic markers.
Please note that the festival area will be closed to vehicle traffic and parking for the day. The event is held under the auspices of the Mayor of Prague 2, Jan Korseska, and Councillor Bc. Tomáš Halva.
