The National Museum Unveils New Exhibition: ‘Ethiopia in the Mirror of a Diplomat’ at the Náprstek Museum

The Náprstek Museum of Asian, African, and American Cultures has opened its latest exhibition, ‘Ethiopia in the Mirror of a Diplomat,’ now on display in the museum’s courtyard. This exhibition features a selection of photographs by diplomat Miroslav Kosek, showcasing the natural beauty and geographical diversity of Ethiopia, as well as the everyday life of its inhabitants.

The series primarily highlights the regions of Oromia, Amhara, Harari, and southern Ethiopia. The photographs vividly capture the lives of local people, their culture, customs, and environment, as well as the unspoiled nature with its rich ecosystems.

Visitors to the museum can journey through the images to Bale Mountains National Park, known for its volcanic peaks, glacial lakes, and waterfalls. The exhibition also features the dramatic landscapes of the Simien Mountains, famous for their numerous endemic animal species, as well as Lake Hora-Dambal, the sacred Warka trees, and the rainforests, all of which play a vital role in the life and culture of local ethnic groups. Particularly striking are the images of everyday life and the rock-hewn churches from the 12th and 13th centuries, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The exhibition also offers insights into Ethiopia’s diverse architecture, with its colorful house facades, winding alleyways, and buildings that blend traditional Ethiopian motifs with European techniques.
