Festival “Day of Architecture” 2024: Full Programme Released

This year’s edition of the “Day of Architecture” festival once again invites architecture enthusiasts to discover unique buildings and locations in over 120 cities across the Czech Republic and Slovakia from 27th September to 3rd October. With a diverse programme ranging from guided tours to workshops, this year’s festival is dedicated to notable figures and the memory of Franz Kafka.

The 14th edition of the popular “Day of Architecture” festival will take place from 27th September to 3rd October in more than 120 cities across the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The free programme is aimed at architecture lovers and offers a wide range of events, including tours of normally inaccessible buildings, architecture walks, lectures, cycling tours, concerts, and workshops for children.

This year’s festival highlights renowned figures such as Franz Kafka, Karel Hubáček, and Josef Fanta, along with contemporary architecture. The theme of “The Process of Transformation,” marking the 100th anniversary of Franz Kafka’s death, is especially prominent. Numerous events invite participants to explore buildings and locations with a Kafkaesque atmosphere. These include walks to places associated with Kafka in Prague, Mariánské Lázně, and Špindlerův Mlýn, where he wrote parts of his work The Castle. Other tours focus on the influence of Jewish and German architects who shaped the city’s landscape.

The festival is organised by the association Kruh in collaboration with local architects and organisations. Some events require prior registration due to limited spaces, which will be available from 15th September. The full programme is available online at www.denarchitektury.cz. In parallel, the “Film and Architecture Festival” will also take place.

Since its inception 14 years ago, the “Day of Architecture” has provided a platform to experience architecture in a unique way and to see cities from new perspectives. Last year, the festival attracted over 35,000 visitors and offered more than 500 events in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
