Meteorologists have extended their warnings of extreme rainfall and flooding to additional areas in the Vysočina region and the southern part of the Bohemian Forest (Šumava). From Friday, more intense rain than originally forecast is expected to reach the west of the country, including the Ústí and Pilsen regions. Additionally, strong winds are expected over the weekend, affecting the entire republic except the Pilsen region, according to the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ).
The weather in the coming days—at least until Sunday—will be influenced by the low-pressure system ‘Boris,’ which will bring considerable precipitation. This will primarily impact the southeastern half of the country and the windward sides of higher areas.
Over the next four days, large parts of the Czech Republic are expected to receive exceptionally high amounts of precipitation, ranging from 150 to 250 millimeters per square meter. This will lead to rising river levels, with some rivers potentially exceeding their highest flood levels.
An extreme flood warning has already been issued for the east, south, and north of the country. In other regions, including central and northwest Bohemia and Prague, a flood warning is in place with the possibility of reaching the second stage. In addition to traditional flood-prone areas, flash floods and landslides are also possible in normally unaffected regions.
