Due to an unfavorable weather forecast and warnings from meteorologists, the organizers have decided to reschedule this year’s edition of the popular street festival, Zažijte Americkou jinak (Experience Americká Differently). While the date has changed, the program will remain the same. On Saturday, October 5, instead of the original date of September 14, the streets of Americká and Záhřebská will transform into a lively promenade filled with music, dance, theater, workshops, activities for children, and delicious food.
The musical and artistic program will take place across four stages. The heart of the festival will be the La Calle Mexicana stage, featuring performances from Prague’s first original Mexican mariachi band, Mariachi Azteca De Praga, alongside groups like Grupo Latinsky, Cumbia Cooperativa, and several DJs. The program will also include a dance workshop, an antigravity yoga demonstration, and a drummer parade. Continuing the tradition, there will be an official celebration of Mexico’s Independence Day, El Grito, in collaboration with the Mexican and Latin American community, complete with a special piñata made for the occasion.
At the fountain on the corner of Americká and Záhřebská, the Burza #4 stage will be set up near the establishment of the same name, which has supported the event for several years. Several DJs will perform throughout the day. On the Apelace 21 stage at Záhřebská 21, jazz will mix with house music, while visitors can relax at the Soundset stage, located at the corner of Americká and Uruguayská.
Local businesses and organizations will also be part of the festival. The social and cultural center Letohradská 10, run by Latin American and Czech artists under the name Kolektivole z.s., will showcase their work. As in previous years, the library on Záhřebská Street will engage children with fun games and competitions. Nearby, the independent theater Divadlo D21, which recently celebrated its 21st anniversary, will return to Americká with a booth. You’ll also be able to view a sculpture by Mexican artists, created in honor of Mexico’s Independence Day, along with other art installations.
The main organizer of the festival, Omri Goz, commented: “In over 10 years of organizing Zažít Americkou Jinak, it has become an event that attracts a large number of visitors annually. We are pleased that we continue to fulfill the original idea of connecting neighborhood communities. Every year, we involve local businesses, bars, restaurants, associations, and individuals. On this day, people from different cultures come together to enjoy the place where they live and work. This is what gives Zažít Americkou Jinak its unique atmosphere.”
Throughout the day, festival-goers can enjoy delicacies from Mexican, Latin, and global cuisines, from trendy street food to offerings from local establishments. A MINT Market will feature design pieces from local designers and original products from Latin America. At the Art&Deco by TSD booth, you can even join a workshop on painting glass with acrylic markers.
