Widening of Bridge at Prague Airport to three Lanes: Construction Work Starts Monday

The bridge to Prague’s Václav Havel Airport will be widened to three lanes as part of the airport’s ‘Towards the Future’ development plans. Construction will begin on 16 September, with the completion of the widened bridge expected by May 2025.

“The expansion of transport infrastructure is a key focus in our development plans. We’ve already established an efficient trolleybus line, and preparations are underway for a railway connection between the airport and Prague city centre. We are also increasing the capacity of road connections. Widening the access bridge on Aviatická Street is one of the steps we are taking to accommodate future growth in passenger numbers and the corresponding expansion of terminal capacity. In the future, we will also more than double the number of parking spaces on the airport grounds, including a central charging station for electric vehicles. This will make travel to the airport easier and more comfortable for passengers,” said Martin Kučera, a member of the Prague Airport Board of Directors.

The expansion of the access bridge on Aviatická Street aims to improve both safety and efficiency in managing increased traffic as part of the airport’s future development. The redesigned bridge is set to include two lanes for inbound traffic and a separate lane for exiting to the motorway.

Construction will commence on 16 September, starting with the removal of lighting and the construction of temporary crossings. Traffic will be reduced to one lane until the end of September. The same restriction will apply to the outbound bridge. From October, the current access bridge will be demolished, including its supporting structure and piers. During the construction, access to the airport will be reduced to one lane and traffic will be diverted via a temporary road in the central reservation.

Additionally, K Letišti Street is undergoing reconstruction, with traffic regulated by traffic lights. From 23 September to 25 October, bus stops for city and suburban lines toward Terminals 1 and 2 will be temporarily merged at the existing U Hangáru stop (in front of Car Park D). The U Hangáru stop for city-bound buses will be canceled and temporarily relocated to Jana Kašpara Street.
