The Battle of White Mountain: Bitva na Bílé hoře

Bílá hora (White Mountain) in Prague 6 will once again be transformed into a battlefield this year. On the weekend of 21 and 22 September 2024, a reconstruction of the historic battle that marked a turning point for the Czech lands in 1620 will take place here. The event will begin at 12:00 on Saturday, with the battle itself staged at 15:00 on both days.

It will depict the clash between the armies of the Bohemian Estates on one side and the combined forces of the Catholic League and the Imperial Army on the other. Hundreds of soldiers from across Europe, including artillerymen and cavalry, will come to Prague to take part in the largest reconstruction of a battle from the Thirty Years’ War in the region. Pyrotechnic effects and cannon fire will fill the battlefield.

The event will also feature a historical marketplace and a diverse program for both children and adults. Planned activities include sword fighting demonstrations, troop training, firearms demonstrations, jugglers, musical performances, and more.

The re-enactment of the Battle of White Mountain (Bitva na Bílé hoře) is organized by the Bílá hora 1620 association and is one of the largest events of its kind in Europe. Each year, the battle is recreated as authentically as possible. This year, the event celebrates its 20th anniversary.

‘The two-hour battle, due to its rapid pace, was more of a skirmish, but it determined the fate of the entire Estates Uprising and shaped the future of the Czech state for the next 300 years. As a result, everyone was forced to convert to Catholicism or leave Bohemia. Many fled across the border, and 27 Bohemian leaders were executed. We strive to depict the battle as realistically as possible,’ explains Martin Cholinský, the event organizer.

Admission: Adults 250 crowns, children 150 crowns.

A grandstand ticket is available for an additional 50 crowns.

Tickets are only available at the official entrance.
