The Prague City Council has approved a contract for the completion and adaptation of an unfinished building in Prague 8 to serve as the new headquarters of the European Union Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA). The contract, awarded to GEOSAN GROUP, a. s., is valued at just under CZK 2.4 billion (excluding VAT).
The project will transform the former Nová Palmovka centre, adapting it to meet EUSPA’s specific requirements using the “Design & Build” approach, which encompasses both the planning and construction phases. All necessary permits will be obtained, and the administrative building will be fully completed. The establishment of EUSPA in Prague is seen as a major step forward for the Czech Republic, positioning Prague—especially the district of Prague 8—as a hub for technological advancement. This initiative is expected to contribute billions of crowns to the national GDP annually.
Prague Mayor Bohuslav Svoboda highlighted the project’s importance, emphasizing that it will involve not only the construction of approximately two thousand urban flats but also provide critical advancements in areas such as transport, agriculture, energy, and natural resource management. “EUSPA presents enormous opportunities for Prague, our companies, research institutes, and citizens,” said Svoboda.
The contract was awarded through an open tender process in compliance with public procurement regulations. A total of three bids were submitted by the deadline of 18 March 2024, with the evaluation based on the best price-to-quality ratio, particularly considering the experience of the project participants. The GEOSAN GROUP’s offer was selected as the most economically advantageous.
The City Council’s approval clears the way for the transformation of the Nová Palmovka centre into a forward-looking headquarters for EUSPA, expected to drive scientific and technological development in Prague and across the Czech Republic.
