Prague Public Transport (DPP) will begin the complete reconstruction of the Českomoravská metro station on Line B at the beginning of next year, with preparatory work starting at the end of October. The public contract for this investment project was awarded to the consortium of HOCHTIEF CZ and SYNER, with a total project cost of around CZK 930 million. The construction work is expected to take approximately one and a half years.
Due to the replacement of escalators and the platform ceiling slab, the station will close for nearly a year starting in January 2025. During this time, trains will pass through the station without stopping. DPP anticipates reopening the station to passengers by the end of 2025, with full completion of the renovation work planned for summer 2026.
As part of the modernization of Českomoravská station, DPP will conduct extensive renovation work to eliminate leaks and replace all cables, air conditioning, and lighting systems. The station will also receive new escalators and floor tiles. The original, damaged ceramic tiles will be replaced with glass panels designed by Maxim Velčovský and the architectural firm edit!, both of whom won the competition announced by DPP in autumn 2022 for the graphic design of the interior.
The panelling of the escalator tunnel will be renewed, and the ceilings above the platform will be renovated. The station’s vestibule, which currently offers a clear view through the roof structure, will receive a new ceiling.
The complete reconstruction of Českomoravská station will be coordinated with surface construction works planned by the property developer Kaprain Group as part of a development project in the area. Preparatory work on the surface will begin at the end of October 2023 and will include the removal of canopies between the station hall and the bus station in the first phase. During this time, pedestrian routes will be altered due to local restrictions, but the concourse and all three exits will remain fully accessible.
Starting November 19, 2024, the next phase will commence, involving the demolition of superfluous extensions to the vestibule. This demolition work will continue until the end of the year, during which exit E1—leading from the station concourse towards the bus station, Ocelářská Street, and the O2 Arena—will remain closed to passengers. The bus stop for bus lines 151, 152, and 375 will also be moved a few meters in the direction of K Moravině Street.
Detailed information on traffic measures and recommendations related to the temporary closure of Českomoravská metro station will be announced by the transport company in December.
