After more than 37 years of operation, the air rescue service based at Prague Airport now has a modern new home. The rescue teams, who respond to the most serious emergencies daily, will now benefit from a cutting-edge modular facility, located directly within the airport’s security zone and designed to meet the highest safety standards.
Construction of the new base began in June 2023 after years of planning, with the city of Prague investing approximately CZK 46 million in the project. “Air ambulances respond to the most critical accidents where every minute counts. I’m therefore delighted that we can now provide the crews with a proper facility,” said Deputy Mayor Alexandra Udženija.
Prague Mayor Bohuslav Svoboda also praised the dedication of the rescue teams: “These highly skilled professionals deserve a comfortable environment to rest between missions.” The air rescue service has been saving lives for nearly four decades, with almost 800 missions carried out in Prague alone last year.
The new base at the airport offers many advantages, including access to state-of-the-art technology and advanced navigation systems. It also enables the service to conduct missions in challenging weather conditions.
In addition to the new airport base, another facility was opened in Holešovice in September, where up to four on-call teams are stationed. Petr Kolouch, Director of the Prague Rescue Service, has plans to further expand the network of rescue bases in the coming years to accommodate the needs of the growing city. New bases are planned in Běchovice, Modřany, and Zbraslav, among other locations.
