The price of butter and dairy products continues to rise rapidly, posing a significant challenge for both households and the food industry. Since the beginning of the year, butter prices have increased by a third. The rising cost of raw milk directly impacts the prices of bakery and confectionery products.
According to preliminary surveys by statisticians, a 250-gram pack of butter now costs nearly seventy crowns in some shops. A report by the news channel ČT24 highlights that this situation is a challenge not only for households but also for bakeries and confectioners, as the prices of other dairy products continue to climb.
The price of milk sold by farms to dairies is influenced by its quality, fat content, and protein content. Currently, the average purchase price for raw milk is around twelve crowns per litre, an increase of 38 hellers since the start of the year.
In contrast, the retail price of butter has risen by approximately a third. Preliminary data for October suggests that the increase could be even more dramatic. This rise poses challenges for bakeries and confectioners who rely on butter for cakes and pastries. As a result, some confectionery and bakery products may become five to ten percent more expensive.
Overall, the increase in butter and milk prices has far-reaching consequences. Given these developments, it remains to be seen how the markets will evolve in the coming months.
