Prague Tomorrow? – A Look into the Future of the Capital

A new portal offers a comprehensive overview of current construction projects that will change the cityscape of Prague

What will the Vltava Philharmonic Hall, the New Hlavák, Rohanský and Libeňský Islands, and the Smíchov Terminal look like in the future? Which new bridges will connect the banks of the Vltava, and how will Prague’s industrial wastelands be remodelled? These questions are answered by the innovative map portal Prague Tomorrow? (Praha zítra?), operated by the Institute for Planning and Development of the Capital City of Prague (IPR).

The portal provides a thorough overview of current construction projects that will reshape Prague’s cityscape. Covering everything from small public investments to large-scale projects by private investors, the app showcases the full spectrum of urban development. Users can track projects from initial ideas to completed schemes, giving them detailed insights into the city’s planning endeavours.

With the Prague Tomorrow? (Praha zítra?) app, users can search for construction projects by location or name and filter them by realisation phase or district. Each project features its own tab with basic information, detailed site drawings, image documentation, and a brief textual explanation. The data is sourced either from the investors or project developers, or from publicly accessible information.

The primary aim of the map portal is to provide and systematise basic information on the spatial development of the capital, without evaluating or judging the projects presented.

IPR Director Ondřej Boháč expressed his enthusiasm about the launch of the application: “We are very pleased that we have succeeded in publishing this application. It will make it easier for the people of Prague to stay informed about developments in their neighbourhood.” Boháč emphasises that even smaller projects, such as the extension of a tram line or the construction of a new pedestrian bridge, can significantly impact the quality of life for citizens.

The most significant projects presented in the app include the Vltava Philharmonic, the City Ring, the 4th Quadrant, Florenc 21, Nový Hlavák, the Bubny – Výstaviště railway line, Hradební korzo, as well as the transport terminals in Smíchov and the Nové Dvory land use study.

The CAMP team ensures that all projects in the app are always up to date and serves as the guarantor for the content. In the next phase, citizens and investors are invited to actively help shape the app and contribute information about planned projects in their neighbourhoods.
