The Champions Hockey League features an exciting Czech clash: Sparta Prague and Oceláři Třinec meet in the round of 16. Both teams are among the top contenders in the Extraliga and promise thrilling matches.
Two top teams from the Czech Extraliga will meet in the round of 16 of the Champions Hockey League (CHL): HC Sparta Praha and HC Oceláři Třinec. The first leg will be played on 13 November in Prague, followed by the second leg on 20 November in Třinec. Both teams are no strangers to the CHL, and Prague, in particular, can look back on a number of successes.
HC Sparta Prague has already reached the CHL round of 16 for the fifth time. The Prague team’s greatest success in the CHL came in 2016/17, when the capital city club reached the final, where they narrowly lost to Frölunda Göteborg in overtime.
On the other hand, this is only Oceláři Třinec’s second appearance in the round of 16 of the CHL. In their debut season in 2017/18, they reached the semi-finals. In the regular season of the Champions Hockey League, Třinec finished the group stage in fourth place, while Sparta Prague finished 13th, with the two teams separated by just two points.
The close ties and long-standing rivalry between the two teams in the Czech league promise a thrilling clash. The home advantage could be decisive, especially in the second leg in Třinec, which benefits from its higher position in the CHL group stage.
Sparta Prague currently occupy 3rd place in the domestic league, while Třinec are 12th, though they are the current Czech ice hockey champions. Sparta Prague won the last meeting between the two teams at the end of October in Třinec, winning 3-2 on penalties.
Tickets and VIP packages for the game in Prague are still available via the official website of HC Sparta Praha.
