The Christmas market at Náměstí Míru has been open for a week now, and the markets in the city centre will follow this weekend. The first lighting of the Christmas tree on Old Town Square marks the official start of this year’s Christmas season in the Czech capital.
The annual illumination of the Christmas tree is visited by many tourists as well as Prague residents. This year, the Christmas tree will light up for the first time on Saturday, 30 November 2024, at 16:00. The Old Town Square will be decorated with a 22-metre-high spruce from the village of Krompach in the Českolipsko region, which was selected by a commission from a total of 45 candidates.
Live performances by talented groups of artists, arts and crafts stalls, and delicious refreshments promise an unforgettable Christmas season. If you would like to experience the festive atmosphere in other places in Prague, you can find more Christmas markets in the Czech capital here.
