    Real Wages in the Czech Republic Rise by 4.6% in the Third Quarter of 2024

    In the third quarter of 2024, average gross monthly wages per capita in the Czech Republic rose by 7.0% year-on-year and by 4.6% in real terms. The median wage was CZK 40,482, according to the latest data from the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ).

    “In the third quarter of 2024, the average nominal wage rose by 7% to CZK 45,412. Taking inflation into account, real wages increased by 4.6%. The median income in the third quarter was CZK 40,482,” commented Jitka Erhartová, Head of the Labour Statistics Department at the Czech Statistical Office.

    The average gross monthly wage of CZK 45,412 in the third quarter of 2024 represented an increase of CZK 2,973 (7.0%) compared to the same period in 2023. As consumer prices rose by 2.3% during this period, real wages grew by 4.6%. The total volume of wages and salaries increased by 7.2%, while the number of employees rose by 0.2%.

    Compared to the previous quarter, seasonally adjusted average wages grew by 1.9% in the third quarter of 2024.

    In a sectoral breakdown by CZ-NACE sections, the highest increases in average wages compared to the third quarter of 2023 were observed in the following sectors:

    • Real estate activities: +14.4%
    • Professional, scientific, and technical activities: +10.1%
    • Water supply, sewerage, waste management, and remediation activities: +9.3%

      The lowest increase was recorded in the areas of public administration and defence; social security (+3.4%) and education (+3.7%).

    The median wage of CZK 40,482 increased by 6.6% year-on-year, reaching CZK 42,893 for men and CZK 37,824 for women. Eighty per cent of employees earned between CZK 21,349 and CZK 77,014.

    In the first three quarters of 2024, the average salary was CZK 45,107, representing an increase of CZK 2,921 (+6.9%) compared to the previous year. With a 2.3% rise in consumer prices, real wages increased by 4.6%.
