After a narrow 2-1 defeat at home, HC Sparta Prague faces a clear task today in the Champions League quarter-final second leg against Växjö: a win with at least a two-goal difference is essential to reach the semi-finals.
On Monday, HC Sparta Prague travelled by plane to Sweden, where a tough Champions League quarter-final second leg awaits them today, Tuesday, at 7 p.m. on the ice in Växjö. Pavel Gross’ team was in high spirits, buoyed by the return of the ever-positive defenceman David Nemec.
The upbeat mood was not dampened by their home defeat in the first leg. “We wanted to go to Sweden with a better result, but we are strong enough to win and progress,” said team captain Miroslav Forman, who recalls previous encounters with Växjö.
The Swedish side has proven why it is considered one of the top teams in Europe. “They confirmed that in Prague, even if they’re not doing so well in the league. We’re up against a tactically well-prepared team, but we want to maintain our strong form and advance,” said the experienced forward, who is also looking forward to the support of travelling fans. “I hope they enjoy the trip and that we come back having secured promotion!”
