Prague Public Transport (DPP) is temporarily closing two metro stations. Preparatory work for the complete modernisation of the Českomoravská and Pankrác metro stations has been completed, and the renovation of both stations will begin on the same day. As a result, both stations will be closed to passengers for approximately a year starting Monday, 6 January 2025, with trains only passing through.
As an alternative to the Českomoravská metro station, the transport company recommends using the Vysočanská metro station. For the Pankrác station, passengers are advised to use the Pražského povstání metro station in combination with tram line 19.
Modernisation of the Českomoravská Metro Station
The complete modernisation of the Českomoravská metro station, including the replacement of escalators, will take approximately 11 months. The DPP recommends passengers use the neighbouring Vysočanská station and then take public transport from there to the Poliklinika Vysočany, Divadlo Gong, or Českomoravská stops. Alternatively, travelers can also walk from Vysočanská to their destinations.
In connection with the closure, the DPP will reinforce tram line 31 on weekdays.
Recommendations for Events at the O2 Arena
During events at the O2 Arena, the DPP will regulate public transport in the area in cooperation with the Police of the Czech Republic, the Municipal Police of Prague, and the City of Prague. Depending on the type and size of the event, public transport in the surrounding area may be increased.
Up-to-date information on specific measures will be published on the website dpp.cz/ceskomoravska (CZ), on social networks, and via other communication channels.
Visitors to the O2 Arena are advised to use the nearby Vysočanská metro station and follow the marked footpath from there. Alternatively, the Prague-Vysočany and Prague-Libeň railway stations are also available.
Traffic Measures During the Closure of the Pankrác Metro Station
The reconstruction of the Pankrác metro station, including the replacement of escalators and lifts and the construction of a transfer to line D, will take approximately 12 months. The DPP recommends using the neighbouring Pražského povstání metro station and tram line 19, which stops directly opposite the entrance to the OC Arkády shopping centre.
From 6 January 2025, tram line 19 will be reinforced with additional connections. It will operate daily in both directions on the route Pankrác – Pražského povstání – Náměstí Bratří Synků and will run every five minutes during rush hour.
Further information on measures related to the closure of the Pankrác metro station will be provided on the website dpp.cz/pankrac (CZ), on social networks, through announcements in the metro, and via other communication channels.
