As in previous years, the popular Týden sportu zdarma (Free Sports Week) event, organised by the City of Prague, will take place just before the New Year. From Monday, 25 December, to Sunday, 31 December, numerous sports facilities across Prague will be open free of charge.
The 15th edition of Free Sports Week offers a diverse range of activities, organised by Prague sports clubs and facilities. A full list of participating venues can be found on the website prahasportovni.cz.
“The Week of Free Sport (Týden sportu zdarma) is a fantastic opportunity to make sports facilities accessible to everyone. It allows Prague residents to try out activities and venues they might not usually consider. I hope many people will take advantage of this campaign again this year,” said Antonín Klecanda, Councillor for Education, Sport, and Leisure for the City of Prague.
“I will always support the promotion of sports and physical activity. I’m delighted that the people of Prague have this opportunity to engage in sports for free. Hopefully, it will encourage them to adopt a more active lifestyle,” added Prague Mayor Bohuslav Svoboda.
Due to limited capacity, some facilities require a telephone or online reservation. Access may not be available during the entire Christmas opening hours but only on specific days and at certain times.
Last year, dozens of sports facilities participated in the campaign, offering a wide range of activities. Thousands of people took part, with some venues reaching full capacity at times.
The Week of Free Sport is organised in cooperation with sports facility operators and was first held in 2008.
