The IIHF Hall of Fame will once again honour legends of ice hockey in 2025. Among this year’s new inductees is David Výborný, one of the most successful Czech players of all time. The induction ceremony will take place in late May as part of the 2025 Ice Hockey World Championship in Stockholm.
The IIHF announced the new additions on Thursday. Former Czech national ice hockey player David Výborný will be inducted into the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Hall of Fame.
A total of seven new members will be honoured. In addition to Výborný, they include Finnish official Kai Hietarinta and five other players. Two of the players are outstanding personalities in women’s ice hockey: Kim Martin-Hasson (SWE) and Vicky Sunohara (CAN). The men’s group includes equally renowned players: in addition to Výborný, Zdeno Chára (SVK), Henrik Lundqvist (SWE), and Frans Nielsen (DEN) will also be inducted.
David Výborný played during the heyday of Czech ice hockey. He was part of the team that won three consecutive gold medals at the Men’s World Championships from 1999 to 2001 and earned five gold medals over a ten-year period (1996-2005). In total, he participated in twelve World Championships, as well as the 2006 Olympic Games (bronze), the 2004 World Championships, and two Junior World Championships (1993, 1994). Výborný also had a long and successful NHL career, playing 543 games for the Columbus Blue Jackets over a seven-year span (2000-2008).
To date, 26 Czech ice hockey representatives have been inducted into the Hall of Fame.
The IIHF Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place on the final day of the 2025 Men’s Ice Hockey World Championship in Stockholm, Sweden, on May 25, 2025.
