Global Passport Index 2025: Czech Republic in 20th Place

European Passports Dominate the Passport Index Ranking for 2025

Arton Capital’s Passport Index has unveiled the strongest passport of 2025. The United Arab Emirates retains the top spot for the fourth consecutive year, while the Czech Republic ranks 20th, yet remains in the group with the fifth most highly-rated passport in the world.

European countries continue to dominate the index, with 19 out of the top 20 strongest passports coming from Europe. Spain (2) has overtaken Germany (5) to claim 2nd place, while Finland (3) has surpassed countries such as France (4) and Italy (7) to take 3rd place. France’s 4th place means it continues to have the strongest passport among all G20 countries.

“Unsurprisingly, European passports are by far the best performers, outpacing larger economies such as the United States and China. Almost all Balkan countries have seen an increase in their mobility this year—a positive trend in the region that we hope will continue,” says Hrant Boghossian, co-founder of the Passport Index.

Czech citizens can enter 119 countries visa-free, receive a visa on arrival in 50 countries, and only need a visa in advance for 22 destinations. This positions the Czech passport alongside Croatia and Estonia, ahead of countries such as Slovenia, Liechtenstein, Japan, and Canada.

Kosovo is the rising star this year, recording an impressive 35-point increase in its mobility score. This increase is attributed to the country’s accession to the Schengen Area at the beginning of the year.

The United Kingdom has slipped further down the rankings, falling 10 places from 22nd to 32nd, after having held a spot in the top 10 as recently as 2017.

The United States (US) has also seen a further decline in its passport power, dropping from 27th place last year to 38th place in 2025. In 2019, the US still held a position in the top 20.
