In České Budějovice, the new section of the D3 motorway from České Budějovice to Kaplice was opened to traffic at the end of December. Hundreds of people attended the opening. Drivers now have another 28 kilometers of the D3 at their disposal.
‘A big thank you to Director Hrušková, Radek Mátl from the ŘSD, but also to Martin Kuba, the governor, with whom we have been here since the first moment, since January 2022, when we had to get the construction going again, so that we can finally let the first cars through the tunnel today,’ said Transport Minister Martin Kupka (ODS).
‘I am very happy about this. This means that a hundred-kilometer-long section of the motorway is now in operation. From Mezno in Central Bohemia to Kaplice in the Český Krumlov region, the newly opened 28-kilometer section will serve as a bypass for České Budějovice,’ added the Transport Minister.
This is the second newly opened section of the motorway in the South Bohemia region. Since mid-December, motorists have also been able to use the 48-kilometer section of the D4 between Příbram and Písek. A total of 32 kilometers of the new motorway were built, while a further 16 kilometers of older sections were modernized.
The rapid completion of the Czech motorway network not only promotes national infrastructure but also opens up new routes for European trade and transit traffic. In total, the D3 from Prague to the Austrian border will cover 170 kilometers and should be fully completed by 2031.
