Both the farmers’ market at Prague’s Náplavka and at Kubánské náměstí will start their new season in early February. Both markets offer fresh, local products and a variety of culinary delights. Especially along the banks of the Vltava, visitors can expect not only top-quality food but also live music and numerous events.
The first Prague farmers’ market of the year was the Farmářský trh Heřmaňák, which regularly takes place every Saturday at Řezáčovo náměstí in Prague 7.
On Saturday, 1 February (from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.), the farmers’ market will return to Prague’s Náplavka at Rašínova nábřeží for its 16th season. The first farmers’ market by the Vltava took place in 2010.
At that time, the shopping chains lacked high-quality, fresh food, as well as organic products from Czech production. From the initial 28 vendors at the first market along the Vltava, the market has now grown to 90-100 stalls, offering agricultural products every Saturday from February to December between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.
At the first market of the year, alongside homemade salami and sausages, pâtés and other cured meats will also be available. Fresh fish will be on offer, as well as savoury and sweet pastries, baked goods, spices, and many other treats and delicacies.
At the farmers’ market by the Vltava river, visitors can also enjoy live music, with street musicians and professional performers taking turns. Additionally, events such as the Růžový máj – slavnost růžových vín (Pink May – Celebration of Rosé Wines) and Pivo na Náplavce (Beer at Náplavka) are regularly held.
In addition to the farmers’ market by the Vltava, the farmers’ market at Kubánské náměstí will also begin its new season on 1 February. At this market, you will find fresh milk, yogurt, as well as sausages and meats. Fresh bread will be available at the baker’s stall, with many more local producers offering their goods at other stands. From the end of March, the market will also open on two weekdays—Tuesday and Thursday—alongside Saturdays.
