Prague Airport Honours the Best Airlines of 2024

A total of 16,353,522 passengers were handled at Václav Havel Airport in Prague in 2024

Prague Airport has honoured the best airlines of the past year in five different categories, focusing on growth, efficiency, sustainability, marketing, and air freight. The awards highlight the close cooperation between the airport and its partners, as well as their contributions to shared success.

Ryanair defended its title as the fastest-growing airline, while Finnair was recognised as the most efficient airline in terms of operations for the third consecutive year. Wizz Air received the award for the most environmentally friendly airline, and China Airlines was honoured for the best cooperation in marketing. Qatar Airways also achieved the highest growth in airfreight. The awards were presented to airline representatives at a gala dinner in the Fanta building in Prague.

“At the airport, we connect continents, cities, people, and stories. But we can’t do this alone. Everything is based on excellent cooperation with our most important partners – the airlines. Last year, we handled almost 16.4 million passengers, the third-largest passenger volume in the airport’s history, and offered connections to a total of 181 destinations. We greatly appreciate the airlines operating at our airport and are pleased to honour those who have contributed the most to our joint success in the past year – whether through operational performance, marketing activities, or shared values in environmental protection,” said Jiří Pos, Chairman of the Management Board of Prague Airport.

Ryanair was recognised as the fastest-growing airline at Václav Havel Airport Prague for the second year in a row, with the highest annual growth in passenger traffic in 2024.

The most efficient airline of the past year was also honoured. This category recognises excellence in areas such as punctuality, compliance with operating procedures, and speed of baggage handling. Airlines that carried out at least 100 flight movements between July and December of the previous year were considered, which corresponds to approximately two flights per week during the assessment period. Finnair won this award for the third consecutive year.

Another honour was awarded in the sustainability category, in which factors such as noise and emissions reduction and airlines’ commitment to environmental responsibility were assessed. Wizz Air took first place in the expert assessment, which took all criteria into account.

China Airlines’ campaign to promote the direct connection between Prague and Taipei won in the marketing category. An independent jury of marketing and tourism experts evaluated the creative design of the visual material, the originality of the message, and the visibility of the Prague Airport brand and Prague as a travel destination.

In the air cargo segment, Qatar Airways was recognised as the fastest-growing airline for the second time.

In 2024, Václav Havel Airport in Prague handled a total of 16,353,522 passengers, with 134,609 take-offs and landings. According to current forecasts, Prague Airport is expected to handle around 18.4 million passengers this year, which would represent the best operating result in its history.
