Smíchov Terminal: Building Permit for Prague’s New Transport Hub

In addition to the new terminal, the railway station will undergo extensive renovation

Prague has received planning permission for the renovation of the Smíchov transport terminal. The site will be developed into the largest transport hub in the city, serving as a transfer point for trains, underground trains, buses, and trams. It will enhance and significantly improve the Smíchov district as a whole.

Zdeněk Hřib, the Deputy Mayor of Prague responsible for transport, shared the news of the building permit being granted on the social media platform X.

“The Smíchov terminal will be a transport centre like no other in the Czech Republic. At the same time, it is a project that will greatly enhance the area of Smíchov and bring prestige to the entire district. In one location, there will be a transfer hub for trains, underground trains, city and intercity bus lines, and trams. Additionally, a P+R car park with space for around 1,000 cars and a B+R car park for 1,000 bicycles will be included. Cycle paths are also planned near the terminal, providing cyclists with a safe connection from Dvorecký Bridge to the railway bridge over Nádražní Street, and onwards to the immediate vicinity of Výtoňský Bridge,” said Zdeněk Hřib in a social media post on Saturday.

The estimated cost of the project is up to CZK 8 billion, reports Z dopravy. In addition to the new terminal building, the railway station will also be extensively renovated, with construction already underway.

Currently, there are two large public transport terminals in Prague’s Smíchov district—Smíchovské nádraží and Na Knížecí. The new Smíchov terminal will provide a comprehensive solution that efficiently connects all modes of transport, making an important contribution to improving urban mobility.
