The former royal slaughterhouses of Holešovice (Holešovická Tržnice) are celebrating their 130th anniversary with a series of unique events across the entire market area. Visitors can expect a diverse programme full of culinary delights, art, and music.
A special highlight is the “Hurá do konzumu!” pop-up in Hall 17, which transforms into a temple of enjoyment and culinary demonstrations. Guests can enjoy a unique café experience and explore interactive exhibits. Musical performances by artists such as WWW, PAST, and Terezie Kovalová, as well as zymbal music, will create the perfect atmosphere. In addition, lectures and exciting talks will be offered daily from 24 April to 14 May 2025, including the popular “Fuckup Nights“.
Festival BEEF
Another highlight of the celebrations is “BEEF“, a spectacular production blending theatre and gastronomy in the historic rooms of the former slaughterhouses. Visitors will experience a culinary masterpiece with eleven courses, exploring the history of food, the past of Holešovická Tržnice, and the future of gastronomy. This exclusive event will take place from 25 April to 14 May 2025, with a total of 15 performances, each hosting 60 guests. Tickets are available at www.beef2025.cz/vstupenky.
Exhibition at the Tower
The panoramic view of the grounds is not the only attraction drawing visitors to the tower exhibition. On one floor, guests can discover through visualisations what the area looked like 130 years ago and why the city chose this location for the slaughterhouses. The exhibition presents the architectural history of the site, its impact on urban planning, and memories from former employees of the slaughterhouse operation. An interactive experience track allows visitors to engage with the past up close. The exhibition will be open from April to September 2025.
Narozeniny jako kráva (A Birthday to Remember)
The highlight of the anniversary year will be the grand celebration on 13 September 2025. Under the theme “Narozeniny Jako Kráva,” the entire area will come alive, with tenants, restaurateurs, and cultural figures from the market shaping this special day with a diverse programme for the whole family.
