The Prague City Hall opened the Grant Prahy exhibition at Mariánské náměstí earlier this week, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Czech Press Photo competition. The exhibition was created in collaboration with Czech Photo, with photographs taken by renowned Czech photographers. Visitors can view the exhibition in front of the New Town Hall until the end of February.
Grant Prahy is an additional main prize awarded annually – a creative scholarship from the City of Prague for one year. The winning photographer is selected personally by the Mayor of Prague upon the recommendation of an international jury. Through the resulting photographs, the city gains a unique view of the metropolis from different thematic perspectives, preserving it over time.

“Photography is indeed an incredibly powerful phenomenon. Like many human lives, it has delighted, healed, improved, changed, and probably even destroyed. Photos are memories, works of art, and simultaneously sources of entertainment,” says the Mayor of Prague, Bohuslav Svoboda.
The Czech Press Photo competition has been showcasing the best press photos of the year for 30 years. “I am pleased that now all the Grant Prahy winners of the competition can be seen in an outdoor exhibition by both Prague citizens and visitors to the city. Prague has many faces, and when captured by our best photographers, valuable images for the future are created,” says Veronika Souralová, Director of Czech Photo, at the exhibition opening on Tuesday.

The exhibition at Mariánské náměstí will be on display until 28th February 2025. On 16 panels, visitors can view photographs documenting the changes in Prague over the past 30 years. These are the works of the Grant Prahy winners from the last three decades.
