In the fourth quarter of 2024, the total number of overnight stays in hotels and other tourist accommodation in the Czech Republic increased by 7.0% compared to the previous year. Throughout 2024, approximately 23 million guests stayed in the Czech Republic, 3.8% more than in the previous year. This is according to the latest data released by the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ).
The number of overnight stays in domestic accommodation establishments rose by 7.0% in Q4 2024 compared to the previous year, totalling 11.7 million nights.
In hotels, over 4 million guests stayed in the last quarter of 2024, spending a total of 9 million nights in the Czech Republic. The number of hotel guests increased by 7.3% compared to the previous year, while the number of overnight stays rose by 8.0%. There was an increase in foreign guests across all hotel categories, with the strongest growth seen in the four- and five-star categories.
Guesthouses also saw an increase in both guests and overnight stays: visitor numbers rose by 3.5%, while overnight stays grew by 2.7%.
Regionally, the number of guests in Q4 2024 only decreased in the flood-affected regions of Olomouc and Moravian-Silesia. The highest increases in visitors were recorded in the regions of Hradec Králové, South Bohemia, and Liberec.
The number of foreign guests (by nationality) in Q4 rose by 10.7% compared to the same period last year. As usual, the largest number of tourists came from Germany (almost 600,000 guests). Additionally, more than 150,000 guests each traveled from Slovakia, the United Kingdom, Northern Ireland, and Poland to the Czech Republic. The highest growth in guest numbers and overnight stays was observed among tourists from Israel.
In total, 22.8 million guests stayed in Czech accommodation establishments in 2024, spending 57.3 million nights there. The majority of guests (54%) were from the domestic market, though the number of overnight stays by domestic guests decreased by 2.2% compared to the previous year. This trend was primarily influenced by a decline in Q3 2024.
In contrast, the number of foreign guests to the Czech Republic increased by 9.7%, and they spent 9.2% more nights than in 2023. For the first time, tourism in 2024 exceeded the levels of the pre-COVID year 2019—both in terms of guest numbers and overnight stays. Compared to 2019, 820,000 more tourists stayed in the Czech Republic, and the number of overnight stays increased by 264,000.
