Tram Boom in Prague Continues: New Route from Libuš to Nové Dvory Approved

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026, with the line expected to be operational by 2027

The Prague Public Transport Company (Dopravní podnik hl. m. Prahy) has recently received final approval for the construction of another tram line: Libuš – Nové Dvory. This new route will extend the section from Sídliště Modřany to Libuš, which the transport company launched in May 2023.

The Libuš – Nové Dvory route will span 1.8 kilometers and include two pairs of stops, as well as an intermediate stop. The transport company plans to initiate a public tender for the construction contract later this year. Construction is expected to begin in 2026, with the line due to open in 2027. The estimated construction cost is around 1.5 billion crowns, as the project requires extensive relocation of utility lines.

The new tram line will begin at the existing Libuš stop, which will be redesigned during construction. The current terminus will be replaced by a double-track line. Additionally, foundations for an underpass will be built at the Libuš stop for the future Metro D station of the same name, allowing tram services to continue during the construction phase.

From there, the line will continue north along Novodvorská Street to the existing bus stops at Přírodní. These will be replaced by a new tram and bus stop pair, benefiting residents of the surrounding Mirotická Street. The line will then continue north, terminating behind the Novodvorská / Chýnovská intersection in a loop terminus with a single-track section through Novodvorská, Durychova, Libušská, and Chýnovská Streets. The terminal stop, Nové Dvory, will be located on Durychova Street, near the planned entrance to the Metro station.

The new Libuš – Nové Dvory tram line will provide an efficient, locally emission-free connection for the existing and planned residential areas in Libuš and Nové Dvory—independent of road traffic. For many residents, it will create a direct tram link to the city center, a service that has been heavily used since 2023 from Libuš. After the fourth metro line becomes operational, the tram will also serve as a feeder to Metro D, with transfer options at the Libuš and Nové Dvory stops.
