Ester Ledecká impressed once again at the World Ski Championships in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, securing the bronze medal in the women’s downhill on Saturday. The Czech skier celebrates her first World Championship medal in alpine skiing and is the second Czech woman, after Šárka Strachová, to stand on the podium at an Alpine World Ski Championships.
Ledecká had another great run at a major event, winning the bronze in the women’s downhill at the World Ski Championships in Saalbach-Hinterglemm (Salzburg, Austria) on Saturday. The American Breezy Johnson claimed the world champion title, while Austria’s Mirjam Puchner took silver with a strong performance.
For Ledecká, this marks her first World Championship medal in alpine skiing. After Šárka Strachová, she becomes only the second Czech woman to stand on the podium at an Alpine World Ski Championships.
“There’s naturally more pressure at major events, but I try to approach every race the same way and be ready. I always want to give 100 per cent,” said Ledecká after her run. The Czech ski-snowboard-surf multi-talent admitted that she lost the optimal line at some gates in the lower section, which may have prevented her from finishing higher on the podium. Nevertheless, bronze is another outstanding performance by the Czech athlete at a major event.
The Prague native has already won three Olympic gold medals in skiing, and as a snowboarder, she has also earned two golds and one silver at the World Championships.
