The Czech Republic is becoming more and more popular with active holidaymakers. Thanks to its affordable prices, diverse nature, and rich history, the country is a sought-after destination and is being increasingly visited by active holidaymakers from Germany, the Netherlands, and Poland.
Current data from CzechTourism confirms this positive trend in incoming tourism. Germany, Poland, and the Netherlands are among the most important source markets, and the number of visitors from these countries in 2024 exceeded the record figures from 2019.
While German tourists continue to prefer visiting spas and cultural attractions, Dutch travellers are increasingly interested in campsites and cycle paths. Polish holidaymakers are particularly drawn to the Giant Mountains and South Moravia.
‘Our latest figures confirm the increasing popularity of the Czech Republic among international tourists and at the same time show the regions with the greatest potential. Active holidays are a growing trend. In our campaigns, we are therefore increasingly focusing on combining sport, nature, and culture,’ explains František Reismüller, Director of CzechTourism.

2024 not only showed stable growth in tourism but also a change in travel behaviour. This is confirmed by the latest data from three important markets: Germany, Poland, and the Netherlands.
- German tourists: 2,377,682 visitors in 2024 (+4.1% compared to 2023, +14.6% compared to 2019)
- Polish tourists: 841,541 visitors (+10.8% compared to 2023, +25.3% compared to 2019)
- Dutch tourists: 256,789 visitors (-1.9% compared to 2023, +3.2% compared to 2019)
Germany remains the strongest source market. Of the three countries, Poland recorded the highest percentage increase, while the Netherlands maintained a constant number of visitors.
In addition to the classics such as Prague and Karlovy Vary, German tourists are increasingly exploring the Krkonoše Mountains and Šumava. They appreciate wellness offers, hiking, water sports, and cycling tours and prefer to travel in summer and early autumn. Average length of stay: 3.72 days.

Polish travellers mainly visit Prague, the Hradec Králové and South Moravia regions, and the Jeseníky Mountains. They favour hiking, mountain tours, and winter sports and are interested in cultural sights. Average length of stay: 2.97 days.
In addition to Prague, Dutch travellers are also drawn to the South Bohemian Region (Jihočeský kraj) and the Liberec and Vysočina regions. They are keen on hiking, water sports, and camping, especially in the summer months. Average length of stay: 3.81 days.
To further strengthen this trend, CzechTourism is planning to expand digital campaigns in Germany, Poland, and the Netherlands, as well as in other countries around the world, including more distant markets. Sustainable tourism also plays a role here – from environmentally friendly accommodation to the promotion of regional rail connections, always adapted to the needs of the various countries of origin.
