The City of Prague has approved the new official name for the future transport hub in Prague 5. The previous name, Terminal Smíchov, will be replaced by Nádraží Smíchov, which will now appear in all orientation and information systems. This change aims to improve passenger navigation while emphasising Smíchov’s role as one of the most significant transport centres in the city.
‘As a major hub is being created at a location where trains, underground trains, city and intercity buses, and trams converge, clear and consistent signage is essential for easy passenger navigation. The name Nádraží Smíchov best reflects the importance of this key transport hub while also maintaining the long-standing tradition of Smíchov railway station. With the final approval now secured, we can begin construction next year. The Smíchov railway station will soon be a cutting-edge, 21st-century transport hub that will transform not only Smíchov but Prague as a whole,’ said Zdeněk Hřib, Deputy Mayor for Transport of the City of Prague.

‘Thousands of passengers will pass through Smíchov station every day, making it the third-largest transport hub in Prague after the Main Railway Station and Masaryk Station. I am pleased that we now have an official name and that, alongside the transport infrastructure, the location’s name has also been clarified,’ added Petr Hlaváček, Prague’s Deputy Mayor for Territorial and Strategic Development.
The Prague City Planning Commission has also recommended renaming the Smíchovské nádraží underground station to Nádraží Smíchov. The adjacent tram and bus stops will adopt the same name to ensure maximum clarity for passengers.

Once completed, Nádraží Smíchov will be one of Prague’s most important transport hubs. It will feature a railway station for both local and long-distance services, a metro station, tram stops, and city and suburban bus routes. The complex will also include new facilities for long-distance bus travel, as well as P+R parking for cars and B+R parking for cyclists.
