Women’s Health and the Multidisciplinary Treatment of Endometriosis: Czech Ministry of Health Announces Key Reforms

Czech Minister of Health Introduces Specialized Care Centers for Women with Endometriosis – a Disease Affecting 250,000 Women in the Czech Republic and 200 Million Worldwide

The Czech Minister of Health, Vlastimil Válek, has unveiled a new concept for specialized care centers dedicated to treating endometriosis. This initiative marks a significant step in improving healthcare for women affected by the condition. In line with Global Endometriosis Awareness Month, Czech Strategic Technologies has also released a special edition of EndoTalks to highlight the importance of early diagnosis and better treatment options.

At a Press conference earlier this week, Minister Válek underscored the importance of early diagnosis, which can significantly improve women’s quality of life. He called on the media to help raise awareness of this “invisible disease,” which affects hundreds of thousands of women in the Czech Republic alone. He also expressed gratitude to the representatives of the patient organization ENDO Talks CZ for their role in public advocacy and their collaboration with the Ministry of Health.

“Endometriosis is not just a gynecological issue—it affects women’s professional and personal lives and has a significant socioeconomic impact. By working with experts and patient organizations, we are taking concrete steps to provide better and more accessible care. The establishment of specialized care centers will be a key element of this strategy,” said Minister Válek.

The press conference was part of a broader awareness event on reproductive health and endometriosis, held at the Chamber of Deputies. The event featured representatives from organizations that support women affected by the condition, particularly in their journey to motherhood. Endometriosis is one of the leading causes of infertility, impacting up to 50% of diagnosed women.

“Our goal is not only to shorten the excessively long diagnostic process but also to secure adequate funding for treatment and improve access to complementary care, such as egg freezing, spa treatments, and physiotherapy,” said Misha Lebeda, founder of ENDO Talks CZ.

Martina Sehnoutková, director of ENDO Talks CZ, emphasized the need to change both the healthcare system and societal attitudes toward the disease:

“Women wait years for a diagnosis and often face the trivialization of their symptoms. Endometriosis affects their daily lives, career opportunities, and family relationships. For the first time, we can present concrete steps in cooperation with the Ministry of Health that will improve the situation. This is a significant milestone for all women living with this disease.”

The awareness day provided MPs and the public with detailed information on endometriosis, its impact, and available treatment options. Participating organizations, including IFMSA – SCORA, Česká ILCO, and the Propolis33 Foundation, showcased the support they offer to women battling this condition.

Special Edition by Czech Strategic Technologies

To mark Global Endometriosis Awareness Month, Czech Strategic Technologies has released a special edition publication dedicated to this urgent health issue in collaboration with media partner Arab Hospital Magazine. This initiative aims to further emphasize the importance of early diagnosis, innovative treatment approaches, and systemic reforms to improve the quality of life for millions of women worldwide.

On the international stage, ENDO Talks has gained significant recognition, particularly for its expertise in public awareness campaigns and negotiations with healthcare professionals, the Ministry of Health, and other institutions. The organization’s ability to bridge the gap between patients, experts, and policymakers has set a benchmark for similar initiatives across Europe and beyond.

The introduction of specialized care centers is a critical step toward better diagnostics and more effective treatment of endometriosis in the Czech Republic. Further discussions with medical professionals and patient organizations will take place next week at a roundtable event in the Chamber of Deputies.
