Czech History Comes Alive with Kingdom Come: Deliverance II

New Video Game Lures Tourists to Authentic Locations from the Game

Important partners from the tourism, public, and private sectors have signed a memorandum of cooperation. The project, KCD Live, connects the Kingdom Come: Deliverance II video game phenomenon with real-world tourist experiences. This initiative will create a comprehensive range of themed tours and activities for domestic and international visitors who want to explore authentic historical sites made famous by the popular game.

By signing the memorandum, municipalities, tourism promotion associations, government organisations and agencies, and private operators have joined forces to harness the potential that Kingdom Come: Deliverance II offers. The Czech gaming legend from Warhorse Studios faithfully captures the atmosphere of the Bohemian lands in the early 15th century, with two key locations playing a significant role:

    • Kutná Hora and its surroundings – the second most important town in medieval Bohemia, a centre of silver mining and coinage.
    • Czech Paradise (Český ráj) – a landscape full of rock formations and castles, including the iconic Trosky.

“Considering that this is the most successful Czech computer game, which is also achieving considerable success abroad, it is very likely that domestic and foreign players will be eager to see, with their own eyes, the places where Henry of Skalice experiences his adventures,” says the Director of CzechTourism, František Reismüller. He adds: “The authentic atmosphere of Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is a fantastic way to introduce the Czech Republic to the world. Not only iconic sites but also lesser-known historical locations can attract new visitors and offer them a unique experience thanks to the game.”

CzechTourism is already promoting the connection between tourism and the Kingdom Come: Deliverance II phenomenon through a dedicated section on the Ways from Boredom portal and communication channels on social media. Foreign tourists can find tips for exploring (not only) medieval Bohemia on the VisitCzechia website.

The KCD Live project was initiated by tourism operators responding to the growing interest of players in visiting places connected to the game’s story. The newly launched web portal, www.kcdlive.eu, serves as the central platform for information on tourist routes, themed tours, and interactive experiences inspired by the game.

“Players want to experience places from the game firsthand. KCD Live offers them the chance to follow in the footsteps of Henry of Skalice, visit real locations, and immerse themselves in an authentic adventure. Our experience with the first game showed that it attracted thousands of tourists to places they recognised from the virtual world. Now, thanks to coordinated cooperation, we can offer them a truly comprehensive experience,” explains KCD Live project coordinator Ondřej Slačálek.

One of the main focal points of the project is Kutná Hora, which becomes a key location in the second instalment of Kingdom Come: Deliverance. The city and surrounding regions are expecting an increased influx of tourists, not only from the Czech Republic but also from abroad.
