Car-free through May: the ‘Do práce na kole’ campaign motivates thousands across the Czech Republic

Take part now and earn points for sustainable mobility! Registration is open until 30 April!

Registration for the next edition of the ‘Cycle to Work’ (Do práce na kole) campaign in May is already in full swing. Both individuals and teams of colleagues, friends, or family can participate and motivate one another. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a bike – you can also take part using a scooter, on foot, or by running. Registration is open until 30 April!

A month without a car, but under your own steam – this is exactly what the AutoMat association is calling for with the May challenge ‘Cycle, Walk, or Jog to Work’, now in its 15th year. Every year, tens of thousands of people across the Czech Republic take part in this initiative. The campaign not only helps change mobility behaviour but also draws attention to the need for improved infrastructure for sustainable transport.

“Since the first year, we have been pursuing the same goal – to change people’s mobility behaviour across the Czech Republic and create cities that promote active mobility. The May challenge ‘Cycle to Work’ (Do práce na kole) is one of the tools we use to achieve AutoMat’s overarching goal: safe and liveable cities for all – and we have been doing so for 21 years now,” explains Lucie Rýzlerová, head of the campaign. Over the last 15 years, more than 100,000 participants have taken up the challenge – last year alone, over 25,000 people joined in.

The campaign also includes numerous events, such as joint cycling tours and closing ceremonies with prize draws, which are organised in more than 50 participating cities. Participants also vote for the ‘Most Cycle-friendly Employer’ and the ‘Cycling City of the Year’. The ‘Cycle to School’ campaign for schoolchildren, students, and teachers is also running in parallel.

Registration is simple: sign up either as an individual or as a team (2-5 people), pay the participation fee, and endeavour to cycle as much as possible in a sustainable manner throughout May. The journeys are recorded in the system. The focus is not on the number of kilometres covered but on regularity. Teams that achieve a rate of at least 66.6% (two-thirds of journeys to work in May are emission-free) will be entered into a prize draw for attractive prizes.

Further information about the event and registration can be found on the website www.dopracenakole.cz.
