Prague Expands Charging Infrastructure: 50 New E-Charging Stations in Operation

A total of 708 public charging stations from various providers are currently available in Prague

The municipal company Technologie hlavního města Prahy, a.s. (THMP) commissioned 50 new electric vehicle charging stations in Prague yesterday, Wednesday. These stations have been installed in residential areas of the Prague districts of Prague 6, Prague 10, Prague 11, Prague 12, and Prague 14 to make charging more accessible for residents.

The new charging stations are part of a broader plan by the capital to promote public charging services. THMP aims to further expand the charging network and improve availability for electric vehicle users across the city. “Our long-term goal is to make the charging infrastructure more accessible. We are pleased that, thanks to our investments and the development of e-mobility infrastructure, Prague is increasingly being seen as a city that supports this form of transport,” said Michal Hroza, Prague City Councillor for Infrastructure.

“The objective of this project is to build a total of 154 new charging stations within the next two years. Today, we are delivering the first phase with 50 stations in five districts. The estimated costs amount to around 15 million crowns, with a significant portion of the investment co-financed through the Transport 2021–2027 (OPD3) support programme,” explained Michal Fišer, a board member of THMP.

The modern charging stations comply with the new AFIR requirements under European legislation. THMP operates its own network of charging stations and not only actively expands public charging facilities but also ensures the power supply to these stations.

At present, Prague has a total of 708 public charging stations from various providers, offering over 1,215 charging points with a total capacity of 37.87 MW. Of these, 530 stations are designed for slow charging (AC), 133 offer a combination of AC and DC charging, and 45 are dedicated fast-charging stations (DC).

The new THMP charging stations are spread across various locations in Prague, including the areas of Černý Most, Háje, Vršovice, Vinohrady, Kamýk, and Petřiny. Residents of these neighbourhoods now have access to modern charging stations.

A map of the charging stations is available on the website prahanabiji.cz, where all relevant charging information is clearly presented – both for registered customers who regularly charge using a chip and for non-registered users who wish to charge on a one-off basis via mobile phone and QR code.
