Prague’s Public Transport Double Celebrations: 150 Years & 100 Years of Bus Operation

DPP is organising numerous events to mark the occasion, including open days

Prague’s public transport company is celebrating two significant anniversaries in 2025: 100 years of permanent bus operation and 150 years of public transport in Prague. To mark the occasion, the public transport company (DPP) is organising a variety of events, including open days, exhibitions, and celebratory vehicle parades.

This year, the Prague Public Transport Company (Dopravní podnik hl. m. Prahy) is celebrating two major milestones in Prague’s public transport history: 100 years of permanent bus operation and 150 years of public transport in the city. To commemorate these anniversaries, the transport company is hosting a series of public events, including several open days at DPP operations.

On 5 May 2025, a thematic exhibition on the operation of Prague’s public transport system during the Second World War will open at the museum in the Střešovice depot. This follows last year’s exhibition ‘Prague Transport and Civic Life During the First World War’ and also marks the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. Like last year, the exhibition will be accompanied by a richly illustrated book featuring unique information and photographs.

‘150 years of public transport in Prague – that’s an impressive number that deserves celebration. It says a lot. We regularly invest in the development of public transport, which is why we can be proud that Prague’s public transport system is one of the best and highest quality in the world. It consistently ranks at the top of global rankings,’ says Zdeněk Hřib, First Deputy Mayor of Prague for Transport and Chairman of the DPP Supervisory Board.

On Saturday, 21 June 2025, exactly 100 years after the introduction of permanent bus services in Prague, the DPP Vršovice depot will open its doors to the public. This will be followed by an open day at the new Hloubětín tram depot on Saturday, 20 September 2025. The third open day will take place at the Zličín underground depot in autumn.

The anniversary celebrations will culminate in two festive parades featuring more than 60 vehicles from various eras. On Sunday, 22 June 2025, a bus parade of around 20 vehicles will begin at Old Town Square, led by the oldest example, a Škoda 506 N from 1929. The parade will make stops at several stations, including Hradčany Square and Strahov, for photo breaks. The 150th anniversary tram parade will take place on Sunday, 21 September 2025, starting at the Urxova stop on Sokolovská Street in Karlín, led by an original horse-drawn tram.
