Prague Selects Contractor for P+R Opatov Car Park, Offering 495 Spaces

The garage will include 10 parking spaces for disabled people and one parking level designated for electric vehicles, equipped with charging stations

Prague City Council has reapproved the contractor selection for the P+R Opatov park-and-ride facility. The four-storey car park, designed to ease traffic congestion, will offer 495 spaces and feature a green roof with an adjacent park. Construction is set to last 18 months.

The Prague City Council approved the repeated selection of a contractor for the construction of the P+R Opatov park-and-ride facility at its Monday meeting. The consortium named Společnost P+R Opatov – BAK – MTS DIZ – GG was successful with a bid price of 803.2 million CZK, including VAT. The four-storey car park, with a capacity of 495 parking spaces, will be built on the eastern side of Chilská Street, between the D1 motorway and Opatov metro station.

“The new P+R car park will provide commuters with an alternative to sitting in traffic jams, thanks to its fast and reliable connection to Metro Line C. The benefit for the city and its residents will be reduced road traffic,” said Zdeněk Hřib, Deputy Mayor of Prague for Transport.

The design of the car park was created by the architectural firm SATRA. Structurally, it is planned as a four-storey double-tract building with an internal half-ramp arrangement, meaning the levels of both tracts will be offset by half a storey. The project also includes a green roof with an adjacent park.

“The car park has been designed to be as unobtrusive as possible, blending into its surroundings with minimal environmental impact. On the contrary, the structure harmonises well with the area. That is why the project features a unique sloped green roof that connects seamlessly to the park,” added Hřib.

The garage will include 10 parking spaces for people with disabilities, all located near the entrance on level P3. This level will also feature 43 spaces for vehicles running on CNG or LPG and storage for 32 bicycles. Level P5 will be designated for electric vehicles, with charging stations provided. The construction is expected to take 18 months.
