Prague 1 Prepares for Summer: More Fog Showers in Public Spaces

The increasingly frequent heatwaves call for measures to provide relief during the summer months

To make the rising temperatures more bearable, Prague 1 is once again installing refreshing fog showers in busy public areas this year. This tried-and-tested measure aims to cool both locals and tourists during the hot summer season.

Prague 1 is responding to the intensifying summer heat by introducing additional steps to improve the microclimate in the city centre. Throughout the summer, mobile misting showers will be placed at selected locations to help lower temperatures and enhance comfort for residents and visitors to the historic city centre.

‘Water Features Help Make Hot Summers More Bearable’

“Water features help the residents of Prague 1 and visitors to the centre cope with the hot summers. In the face of climate change, we need to find solutions to counteract extreme weather conditions. The installation of fog showers is one of the measures that will help mitigate the effects of summer heat in the most visited parts of Prague,” said Kateřina Klasnová, Deputy Mayor of Prague 1 for Environmental Issues.

“We have identified additional locations where we would like to install water features. As part of the renovation of Kampa Park, we are planning a total of three fog showers, and they will now also be installed in our children’s playgrounds,” Klasnová added.

    Locations of the Fog Showers:

    • Újezd
    • 2x on Náměstí Republiky
    • Staroměstské náměstí (Old Town Square)
    • Jungmannovo náměstí (Jungmann Square)
    • Uhelný trh (Coal Market)
    • Ovocný trh (Fruit Market)
    • Havířská Street

The systems use recycled water, and their operation is optimised to minimise water consumption and protect the environment. Since 2020, fog showers have been installed in the city centre during the summer months through a collaboration between Pražské vodovody a kanalizace (PVK) and the Municipality of Prague 1.
