Unemployment in the Czech Republic Slightly Decreases to 4.3% in March

Compared to the previous month, the number of registered job vacancies increased in March

The Labour Office of the Czech Republic (ÚP ČR) recorded a total of 322,140 jobseekers as of 31 March 2025, which was 4,083 fewer than in February. The unemployment rate fell to 4.3% at the end of March (a decrease of 0.1 percentage point). This is according to the data published today.

“Our forecasts have been confirmed, and unemployment fell slightly in March, which is positive news. However, it is also important to note that interest in retraining and other forms of active labour market policies continues to grow. In the first quarter of this year, almost 15,000 clients underwent retraining through the Czech Labour Office, improving their position in the labour market. Personally, I think it is crucial that we do not forget about the integration of people with disabilities into the labour market, for example, by contributing to the promotion of employment for people with disabilities,” explained the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Marian Jurečka.

Of the total number of registered jobseekers, 167,827 were women, accounting for 52.1% of the total. The unemployment rate for men fell to 4.1%, while the rate for women remained at 4.6%.

Regarding unemployment in individual districts, the districts of Most and Karviná had the highest percentage of unemployed in March—over 8%. The Labour Office recorded very low unemployment (i.e. below 3%) in the districts of Praha-východ and Praha-západ, as well as in Benešov and Zlín.

At the end of March 2025, employers were offering a total of 91,752 job vacancies via the Labour Office of the Czech Republic, which was 3,690 more than in February (an increase of over 4%). There are currently an average of around 3.5 jobseekers for every job vacancy in the Czech Republic, most of them in the districts of Karviná (24.3), Děčín (13.9), and Sokolov (12.8).

Of the reported job vacancies, 73% of employers are seeking candidates with basic or low qualifications, and 69% of vacancies are also suitable for foreigners. According to the Labour Office, employers are mainly looking for construction workers, cooks, forklift drivers, warehouse workers, assembly workers, truck drivers, and cleaners. Most vacancies are offered in Prague (23,480 jobs) and in the Středočeský region (15,974 jobs).
