Prague Zoo invites you to a special experience this Easter: visitors can look forward to the unique opportunity to see the rare Paraná guinea pigs, take part in interactive workshops, and enjoy exclusive animal feedings. A varied programme for the whole family!
Throughout the grounds, Prague Zoo has prepared a diverse Easter programme for its guests. Families can look forward to a joint tracking game (stopovačka), and the animals won’t be left out either – the zookeepers will present them with special gifts. The exact times and locations of the events can be found in the zoo app.
The Rare Paraná Guinea Pigs – A Global Rarity
According to legend, mountains and rocks reveal their treasures on Good Friday. One such treasure is the young of the endangered Paraná guinea pigs, which can be seen outside Brazil only at Prague Zoo. It is the first institution in the world to have successfully bred these animals outside their native South American habitat. With only around 250 individuals remaining in the wild, this success represents a globally significant achievement.
Visitors can meet the guinea pig family on Friday, 18 April, from 11:00 near the boat exhibition (Ptačí mokřady).
Enrichment Workshops: Become Part of the Team!
Over the weekend, visitors will have the opportunity to get involved themselves: in enrichment workshops, they can make baskets, balls, or willow wreaths for the animals. These items stimulate the animals’ natural behaviours and encourage movement. Anyone interested can register via the zoo’s website.
Easter Monday: Special Feedings and Animal Highlights
On Easter Monday, the zookeepers will surprise the animals with seasonal enrichment. Visitors can also get to know the animals better during thirteen guided feedings. A particular highlight is the medical training demonstration with the sea lions.
