Holešovická Tržnice Celebrates Día de los Muertos – A Festival of Colours, Music and Flavours

Visitors can look forward to an outdoor food zone, a market, and a special children’s programme

By PragueDaily

At the end of October, Holešovická Tržnice in Prague will once again become a vibrant centre of Mexican traditions. Visitors can expect a celebration full of music, colours, culinary delights, and creative activities for all ages.

On Thursday, 30 October, Holešovická Tržnice traditionally transforms into a colourful hub of Mexican culture. Visitors can enjoy a varied programme: an outdoor food zone with Mexican specialities, a market in Hall 13, and a special children’s programme in Hall 11. The festive atmosphere will be enhanced by an authentic Mexican altar provided by the Mexican Embassy, Mariachi music, stilt walkers in costumes, and colourful masks illustrating the meaning and symbolism of the Mexican holiday. The festival appeals to all the senses – visually, gastronomically, and emotionally.

Food Zone with Mexican Specialities

From 11:00 to 22:00, the main square of Holešovická Tržnice will be transformed into an outdoor food zone. The menu includes classic Mexican treats such as tacos, quesadillas, and sweet churros, accompanied by appropriate beverages.

“Día de los Muertos is one of our most popular events of the year. We celebrate it with respect for Mexican traditions while opening it up to families, children, and all lovers of good food, music, and entertainment. It is a festival of joy, memories, and life,” explains Michal Tošovský, Programme Director of Holešovická Tržnice.

Markets, Talks and Interactive Activities in the Halls

Hall 13 offers a market with Mexican products and food, talks, film screenings – including the popular film Coco – and creative activities for the whole family.

A new feature this year is the opening of Hall 11: for 100 CZK per person, children and their parents, ideally in costumes, can enjoy a one-hour programme. Activities include dance workshops, craft workshops, and a mini Spanish language course. The programme is divided into blocks with a limited number of participants. Tickets are available in advance via GoOut.

Music, Dance and Colourful Shows

The distinctive festival atmosphere is enhanced by stilt walkers in impressive costumes. In the evening, the sounds of Mariachi Azteca de Praga fill the air, followed by DJ Gadjo, whose set transports the audience straight to Mexico. For those who want more, the evening can continue at a themed afterparty in Burza #4.
