Run Through History at the 2026 Prague Marathon – 3 May 2026

The Prague International Marathon returns beginning next May, welcoming over 10,000 runners to the streets of one of Europe’s most historic and picturesque cities. With a scenic, fast course and a festival atmosphere, the event promises an unforgettable experience for athletes and spectators alike.

The 31st Prague International Marathon will welcome 10,600 runners to one of Europe’s most captivating races. On 3 May 2026, the streets of Prague will come alive with an event that combines history, stunning architecture, and the sheer joy of running.

Holding the World Athletics Elite Label, the marathon offers a scenic yet fast course with gentle gradients—ideal for both runners chasing a personal best and those savouring the city’s breathtaking views. Early-May weather in Prague typically delivers pleasant highs of 19–20°C, providing near-perfect conditions for a run.

The course begins and ends in the heart of Old Town Square, taking participants on a spectacular sightseeing journey through Prague’s most iconic landmarks. The route passes the historic Powder Tower, follows the elegant Na Příkopě boulevard, and continues through Wenceslas Square, the vibrant centre of Prague’s modern life. Runners then cross the legendary Charles Bridge, closed to the public for this special occasion, and follow the picturesque Vltava River, with stunning views of the National Theatre, the Dancing House, and Prague Castle watching over the city.

With a seven-hour time limit, 19 live music stages, the Marathon Music Festival energising every corner of the streets, and pacers catering to all levels, the atmosphere rivals the iconic course itself.

The marathon is also a story of resilience. Paul, a runner from Ireland, collapsed at last year’s start but is now planning his comeback, thanks to the swift actions of RunCzech volunteers, the Emergency Medical Services (ZZS HMP), and the General University Hospital team.

RunCzech provides comprehensive medical coverage, including the GOLEM emergency unit in Old Town Square (capable of intensive care for up to 12 patients), medical tents, six ambulances, three rapid-response teams, and 40 medical staff. Additional safety measures include first aid patrols every 2.5 km, six AED-equipped bike teams, and AED stations at the start and finish areas.

The event will be broadcast live on ČT Sport in the Czech Republic and streamed to 106 countries worldwide. An international live stream with English commentary by Tim Hutchings (Eurosport / Diamond League) will also be available on RunCzech’s YouTube channel in select countries.
