Green Light for New Railway Line between Dejvice and Veleslavín
A key section of the Prague – Airport – Kladno rail project has cleared an important hurdle
A significant section of the Prague – Airport – Kladno rail project is moving forward. A positive environmental assessment has now been issued for the new line between Dejvice and Veleslavín.
A central part of the Prague – Airport – Kladno rail project has overcome an important hurdle. The Czech Ministry of the Environment has granted a positive Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the planned new line between the Prague districts of Dejvice and Veleslavín. This allows the project to move into the next phase of preparation.
The line is planned to follow an entirely new route and will run in a tunnel beneath the Střešovice district. Geological surveys have already been conducted along the future tunnel route this year between the two planned stations. These provide detailed information about the subsoil and form an important basis for further approval procedures. The tunnel option under Střešovice had previously been selected by Czech and international experts as the safest and most suitable solution among several alternatives. The Prague City Council and the district council of Prague 6 have also approved the route.

Moving the railway line underground also creates space for new urban development. The existing rail corridor is to be transformed into a green radial route serving as a recreational area and providing a new pedestrian and cycle connection between Dejvice and the Divoká Šárka nature reserve. Construction of the section between Dejvice and Veleslavín is currently scheduled for 2028.
The new line is part of the larger Prague – Airport – Kladno project, which is divided into eleven construction phases. The reconstruction of the Negrelli Viaduct has already been completed. Since August, the new Bubny station and the Výstaviště stop have also been in operation. Trains are already running between Kladno-Ostrovec and Kladno.
