Never before has the Prague Emergency Medical Service seen so many emergency calls, operations, and patients treated as in 2025. Transports to intensive care units increased by over ten per cent.
The year 2025 represented one of the greatest challenges to date for the Prague Emergency Medical Service (ZZS HMP): never before had so many emergency calls been received, so many operations undertaken, and so many patients treated. The number of intensive care transports rose particularly sharply – by more than ten per cent compared with the previous year.
The ZZS HMP control centre registered more than 246,000 emergency calls in 2025, nine per cent more than the year before. This resulted in over 146,000 operations, during which around 142,000 patients were treated – a new record, roughly 5,000 more than in the record year of 2022.

New Bases and Modernised Control Centre
To better cover the outer districts, the emergency service plans to open new operational bases in Běchovice, Modřany, Vysočany, Klánovice and Zbraslav. The control centre has already been fully modernised and is now among the most advanced in the Czech Republic and Europe. The largest operational base on 28. pluk Street has also been expanded – now up to 11 teams are ready to respond. Additional new bases have been established at the Bohnice Psychiatric Hospital and the Central Military Hospital, where a specialised medical team works alongside paramedics.
“We have implemented crucial steps to further improve the accessibility of the emergency service in Prague and to secure the excellent response times – in the most serious cases, the average is under eight minutes,” explained Alexandra Udženija, Deputy Mayor for Social Affairs and Health. “We have increased the number and capacity of operational bases, deployed additional teams, and commissioned 25 new ambulances. Today, the emergency service operates from 24 bases, from which 38 ambulance teams and seven medical teams respond during the day. More bases are planned for the future.”

The Prague control centre receives an average of 700 emergency calls per day. Monday mornings between 9.00 and 11.00 are the peak hours, with Monday overall being the busiest day, with just under 800 emergency calls. At weekends, the night hours place the greatest demand on the teams. On average, ambulances are dispatched every four minutes, with over 400 operations handled daily.
In December, Prague’s emergency teams carried out more than 13,000 operations – the second-highest figure in the history of the rescue services. Of the 129,000 patients taken to hospitals in 2025, over 27,000 were admitted to FN Bulovka, almost 24,000 to FN Královské Vinohrady, followed by FN Motol, Thomayer University Hospital and the General Faculty Hospital.
