Prague continues to reforest: to keep the city liveable, around 230,000 new trees were planted last year. Reforestation will continue in 2026, and the symbolic milestone of one million newly planted trees since 2019 is now within reach.

As part of the spring and autumn planting campaigns, a total of 229,900 new trees were planted across the Czech capital last year. The focus of the planting activities was in the autumn, particularly in the districts of Vinoř and Jinonice.

With last year’s new plantings, the total number of trees planted since 2019 rose to 867,501. A symbolic milestone could thus be reached this year: according to current plans, the total number of new plantings is expected to exceed one million – a long-term goal of the Prague city government.

“At the start of the previous electoral term, we promised Prague residents one million new trees. This goal is now rapidly approaching,” said Jana Komrsková, Deputy Mayor of Prague for Environment and Climate Planning. Large contiguous areas were reforested last autumn in Jinonice as well as along the Vinořský Stream. Further plantings took place, among others, in the Kozí hřbety area in Suchdol and in the Letňany Forest Park.

Some of the new plantings were carried out already in the spring in Sobín and Lochkov. In the autumn, further locations followed, including Letňany, Čimický háj, Šeberov by the Mlýnský Pond, Vinoř, Jinonice, Suchdol, and two areas in Dubeč. In total, 229,900 new trees were thus grown once again.

This year, a further 206,800 trees are planned to be planted. More than ten different tree species will be used, including winter and pedunculate oak, lime, Norway maple, hornbeam, field maple, larch, Scots pine, Douglas fir, and bird cherry.

“I would like to thank everyone who takes part in our planting campaigns. On the ground, it is primarily the colleagues from Lesy Praha. Thanks to their long-standing commitment, the promised goal of one million newly planted trees is likely to be reached this year,” said Jana Komrsková, with a view to the upcoming plans.
