    Wage Growth in the Czech Republic: Real Wages Up 3.9% in Q2 2024

    In the second quarter of 2024, wages in the Czech Republic saw a notable increase. The average gross monthly nominal wage grew by 6.5% compared to the same period the previous year. After adjusting for inflation, this results in a real wage increase of 3.9%. The most significant wage hikes were observed in the healthcare and manufacturing sectors.

    According to the latest figures from the Czech Statistical Office, average gross wages in the Czech Republic increased by 6.5% year-over-year in the second quarter of 2024. After accounting for inflation, real wages rose by 3.9%. The median wage stood at CZK 38,529.

    “In the second quarter of 2024, the average nominal wage rose by 6.5%. When adjusted for inflation, real wages increased by 3.9%, although some sectors did not experience real wage growth,” explained Jitka Erhartová, Head of the Labour Statistics Department at the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ).

    The average gross monthly wage in the Czech Republic during this period was CZK 45,854, marking an increase of CZK 2,797 compared to the same period in 2023. Despite a 2.5% rise in consumer prices, real wages increased by 3.9%. The total wage volume grew by 6.5%, while the number of employees increased slightly by 0.04%.

    Compared to the first quarter of 2024, the seasonally adjusted growth in average wages was 1.4%.

    An analysis revealed that the highest average wage increases were in healthcare and social work (11.1%), water supply, sewerage, and waste management (7.8%), and manufacturing (7.6%). The lowest increases were seen in education (2.1%) and public administration and defense (2.9%).

    Median wages rose by 5.8% from the previous year, reaching CZK 41,540 for men and CZK 35,565 for women. Eighty percent of employees earned between CZK 20,652 and CZK 75,570.

    In the first half of 2024, the average wage was CZK 44,943, representing a 6.9% increase compared to the previous year. With consumer prices rising by 2.3% during this period, real wages increased by 4.5%.
