The City of Prague’s flood commission met on Thursday to assess the current situation. Due to recent developments, flood defenses will continue to be dismantled, starting in Libeň and Troja on Friday, and then gradually in Zbraslav and Malá Strana from Monday. However, the Prague dams will remain closed throughout the weekend, as all electrical installations and lines must be repaired, cleaned, and thoroughly inspected to ensure public safety before reopening. The city administration also warns of potential risks in parks, forests, and areas with old trees, where the waterlogged ground increases the chance of trees toppling over.
The flood situation in the capital remains under close observation. With forecasts showing improvement, the dismantling of additional flood protection measures will continue on Friday in Braník and Troja, and on Monday in Zbraslav and Malá Strana. The gate in Čertovka will stay closed for now.
Due to the high flow rate of the Vltava, which is expected to persist into next week, all dams will remain closed through Friday and the weekend. Currently, the river’s flow is around 700 m³/s, and remediation efforts can only begin once the flow drops to at least 600 m³/s. To ensure public safety, a mandatory inspection of all electrical installations is also required before reopening.
The State Navigation Administration has reopened navigation on the Vltava between the Jirásek and Barrandov bridges, following a reduction in flow. However, boat traffic remains prohibited in other parts of Prague, as does the use of kayaks, paddleboards, or surfboards. Violators may be fined up to CZK 100,000.
Prague authorities continue to warn citizens of the danger posed by falling trees and urge caution when visiting parks and forested areas. The waterlogged ground, a result of the floods, increases the risk of trees collapsing.
The Flood Commission will meet again on Monday at the latest to determine further measures. Residents are encouraged to stay updated through the media, the city website, and other official channels, where information is regularly updated.
